About WellCare of North Carolina

WellCare of North Carolina was a Centene-affiliated Medicaid Standard Plan. On April 1, 2026 it merged into Carolina Complete Health, which is also Centene-affiliated. The combined plan operates under the Carolina Complete Health name.

Some former WellCare members also hold a Medicare or dual-eligible (D-SNP) product. If your card says D-SNP or you have both Medicare and Medicaid, tell us — it changes the billing order but not your access.

What's covered

  • Your visits. The initial evaluation and every follow-up appointment.
  • Your medication. Buprenorphine/naloxone and related medications for opioid use disorder, through your pharmacy benefit.
  • Ongoing management. Refills, dose adjustments, and monitoring for as long as you're in treatment.

Exact coverage, preferred formulations, and any authorization requirements vary by member. We verify your specific benefits before your first visit — at no cost to you — and tell you what to expect.

How to check your coverage in about five minutes

  1. Find your WellCare card. The plan name is printed on the front.
  2. Request an appointment online and include your plan.
  3. We verify your active benefits directly and confirm what, if anything, you'll owe.
  4. If you're eligible, you can often be seen the same day.

Not sure this is your plan?

It doesn't matter much — we're in-network with every North Carolina Medicaid Standard Plan and Behavioral Health Tailored Plan: Healthy Blue, UnitedHealthcare Community Plan, Carolina Complete Health, AmeriHealth Caritas NC, Alliance Health, Vaya Partners, Trillium Health Resources, Vaya Partners. Plus major commercial carriers and Medicare. Read your card to us and we'll take it from there.
