Richard Pavelock, MD

Dr. Pavelock is a board-certified addiction medicine physician, licensed in North Carolina, treating opioid use disorder, 7-OH dependence, and co-occurring conditions.

His Addiction Medicine subspecialty certification is through the American Board of Preventive Medicine — a member board of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) — held since 2018 and actively maintained. He has also been board-certified in Internal Medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine since 1989. Both are verifiable by anyone at certificationmatters.org. He founded this practice to remove the specific barriers that keep people from starting buprenorphine: distance, waitlists, insurance networks that don't include an available prescriber, and the entirely rational fear of being seen walking into a clinic.

The practice is registered in Statesville, North Carolina, and serves patients statewide by telehealth.

How we practice

• Medication is medicine. Buprenorphine treatment is the standard of care for opioid use disorder, and staying on it long-term is a legitimate outcome.
• Honesty over compliance theater. Tell us what you're actually using. It changes what's safe to prescribe. You will not be discharged for being truthful.
• Access first. Every design decision here — telehealth, contracts with all nine NC Medicaid plans, a phone number a person answers — exists to shorten the distance between deciding to get help and getting it.
• Clear about scope. If you need a level of care we don't provide, we'll tell you and help you find it.
